Have you ever wondered what’s in those big metal boxes on street corners? Some may be painted and some may be plain aluminum – but what goes on inside those things?

If you happen to be at an intersection with a traffic signal, what you’re looking at is a signal controller cabinet. These cabinets control the traffic signal and house all the sensitive electronic equipment that help the signal work efficiently.

What’s in the box?

Detection: The eyes & ears. Our traffic signals use one of three types of detection methods (video, inductive loop và magnetometers) to lớn notify the signal that there is a vehicle, bicycle or pedestrian at the intersection, allowing the controller to provide each their turn in the intersection.

Priority Devices: Decision-making part of the brain. These detect when an ambulance or fire truck is coming & make sure that they have quick và safe passage.Communication equipment: The mouth! Traffic signals communicate with each other through a copper wire system or fiber optic system similar lớn high speed internet systems.

To get started, download a template file. Templates are also available on google drive.

Unfortunately, the Photoshop template could not be added directly khổng lồ this step, but is available on google drive.

On each of the templates, there are reference lines lớn help you see where the vinyl wrap will curve around the box.

In the example project, I will be creating a vinyl wrap designed with a series of photographs so I"ve just collected the images I want to lớn use in a folder.

Assemble your design in the template.

If you plan on using photography as part of your design, it is highly recommended that you vectorize your image. Vectorizing an image means that the pixel color information is converted into simple geometric shapes. If you don’t wish lớn vectorize your photography, please be aware that raster images may result in artwork that looks pixelated or distorted.

In Inkscape, this can be done by selecting your photograph and clicking Path -> Trace Bitmap

In Illustrator, this can be done by selecting your photograph & clicking ‘Image Trace’ at the top of the screen.

Please cảnh báo that when working with large images all software will move slower.

Step 5: Finalizing Your Design

For my design, I’m using example photography và layering the four photos on the four sides of the box.

In Illustrator, use the ‘Crop Image’ tool to size the vector images to fit the four sides.

Step 6: Zoom khổng lồ 100% to check Resolution

It is a VERY important step to check your artwork at 100% scale. This can be done by using (CTRL + +) or (CTRL + -) to lớn zoom in and out of your artwork. In the attached image, you can see at the bottom left that this is what the image looks like at 100% scale.

If your artwork looks blurry or pixelated, this is how it will print. If you want assistance with resizing or vectorizing your artwork please visit invent

Step 7: In Illustrator, Preview Individual Board Design

Only in Illustrator can you preview each individual board.

This can be done by going to tệp tin -> Export -> Export for Screens

This will take you khổng lồ a new window that will show your artwork broken into each side. In the bottom-right, select PDF -> Export Artboard. This will export all the artboards as PDFs that can be previewed easily.

Step 8: Saving and Uploading Your File

Accepted file types include pdf, tiff, psd, ai, svg, eps, & tiff

Vector formats are preferred & are .pdf or .tiff. Any thiết kế software can save these file types.

Illustrator files are .ai, Photoshop files are .psd, Indesign files are .indd (Not an accepted file type và will need khổng lồ be saved lớn a .pdf), & Inkscape files are .svg
